For anyone on the fence about trying this place because of reviews about bland food, I say go for it! We loved this place, the atmosphere was old Austin with sprawling decks under a huge beautiful oak tree and a cozy interior with tons of charm. The chips and salsa were quite tasty, hard to stop. We ordered veggie quesadilla, carnitas enchiladas and elotes. Nothing bland about any of it, all were delicious, the carnitas very flavorful and the elotes better than a lot of places I've been. We also had the house margarita and the Higher Shelf marg, the upgrade is worth it. Definitely plan to come back to soak in more of Pelon's awesome vibe and try more of the menu!

During our recent visit to Pelons Tex Mex in Austin, we enjoyed the enchiladas and fajitas, both of which were flavorful and well-prepared. The outdoor seating under the expansive live oaks provided a pleasant dining atmosphere. The service was attentive and efficient, enhancing our overall experience. While the margaritas did not meet our expectations, we would consider returning for the quality of the food and the inviting ambiance.

Attended dinner here with coworkers. The waiter was awesome on customizing the order. I had the carnitas enchiladas with street corn. Both were delicious and had a sauce that I wish I had more of.

Great place for lunch. Ate outside on the deck and we all enjoyed are food. Free chips and salsa. My son thought it was the best ground beef quesadillas he has had at a restaurant.

It was a little chilly on this day but we had our pup with us so we had to sit outside on the patio. The sun was still out so we were able to stay warm for a bit.

The server was very gracious and accommodating! We ordered House margaritas and Queso Deluxe to start. The queso was so good we decided to order Beef Fajitas. Delicious

The sun was going down and the wind picking up so we packed up the rest of the fajitas to go. They were good for a snack and lunch the following day.

Food was amazing!! We sat outside and the atmosphere was immaculate. Servers were on top of our drinks! Hibiscus margarita is something you definitely don’t want to miss out on!

For this place to have over 4 stars is beyond me. The high reviews must’ve come from people that are POST-hittin-the-clerb or PRE-gamin-before-the-clerb. If ya know whatta mean. Or their paid-for/influenced reviews.

Either way, every single thing I tasted was bland. Ironically there is no salt or pepper on the tables. In which I’d recommend adding that, bc this would’ve elevated my bland experience.

Ordered the “jerk” shrimp tacos. NOTHING jerk about it, just the false advertising. These shrimp are as pale as Casper. Jerk indicates seasoning. Which is not in the room with us.

Opted for the Mexican corn (elote) for my sides, bland. Despite having toppings, including a type of chipotle sauce. Needed salt. And maybe Tajín.

Queso was incredibly bland as well. And barely warm. Again, I would’ve fixed it with salt and pepper but I didn’t have any.

At least drinks are ok, which is what I would think keeps this place afloat. They offer double tall drinks (tequila soda, vodka soda, etc), which is a nice touch.

Def wouldn’t recommend for food. Only cocktails.

Everything from the food to the service to the drinks fell flat. Food came out cold and lacked flavor. Outdoor patio atmosphere was okay, but could use a little TLC. It’s probably a fine option for a family with kids, but not for foodies or taco aficionados.
