I sent two items for digitization and took care to wrap them in protective bubble wrap due to the delicate nature of film. Unfortunately, the results were disappointing. The digitization quality was poor, with subpar audio, and only one item was processed while the other was overlooked. When my items were returned, they were in an unsatisfactory condition—with the tape removed from its reel.

I attempted to contact customer service by phone without success, receiving only email responses. Although I was initially offered a refund, I was later informed that only a partial refund was available, and that the condition of the items upon return was not their responsibility.

Based on my experience, I would encourage others to consider alternative companies for digitization services.

Don’t waste your money. I sent VHS tapes for conversion from PAL to NTSC. They were returned weeks later unconverted and not viewable. I called customer service and was put on perpetual hold. I e mailed [email protected] the suggested e mail in the recorded message - it bounced back that is was an invalid e mail. I finally got through over the phone and was told I was within the time frame of return shipping and they would send me e mail instructions on how to send media back. Never received the e mail and not able to get through to them when I call back.

Don't waste you money. I have cassette tapes I want converted to CDs. The most important to me was a professionally produced audio book my older brother read only available on cassette tapes. I added 4 other audio cassettes of music to make up the 10 pack order. Communication about the status of my order was decent. When my completed order arrived, it took a minute for me to realize there are no names on the CDs and I would need to match the order numbers from the stickers on the cassette tapes. I discovered by having to listen to part of all of them that I have 40 CDs that have nothing on them. I called to ask about them, and the person I spoke to was pleasant and professional but not knowledgeable about why that happened. She told me to just keep the blank CDs. The sound quality and their response is the reason I give them one star. The music cassettes quality is spotty and not great, which I figured was due to the fact that the cassettes were homemade from vinyl that I recorded onto cassettes. But the sound on the professionally produced audio book is also poor. I put the CDs into my 2017 Subaru Harmon Kardon audio system, and with the volume turned all the way up I could barely hear the audio, and couldn't hear parts. When I called customer support, I was told it was past the 60 days from when it was shipped and I couldn't get a refund. (the delay is on me - I moved and retired and had a lot going on). I was told if I paid for shipping, I could send the cassettes again to repeat the process. With a few more questions, it became clear that no one would be trying to figure out why the sound quality was so poor, and they would just repeat what they already did. I asked to speak with a supervisor to learn more about my options. The person took my phone number and said a supervisor would call me. It's been over a week and no one has called.

I sent in a batch of 15 tapes and an 8MM video for processing. Some of these items were over 70 years old. A couple of them had mold on them and they were unable to process these, but the others were digitized without trouble. The video alone was worth the price I paid, as it contained valuable memories. They even offered to refund the cost of the two items that they were unable to process. They stated up front about how much time the conversion would take, and kept their word. I would happily use this service again any time.

I sent a fairly large order to Southtree...28 VHS tapes to convert to DVD. This would seem to be a fairly standard job, one that would be pretty routine for a company like them. But the results were very disappointing. My VHS tapes had been carefully edited family vacations, graduation events, weddings, etc. When the DVD's came back the results were blue screens popping up over my precious video memories, poor quality audio, and even some DVD's that were entirely snowy and fuzzy. I admit to being pretty particular. I actually owned both a VHS player and a DVR. So I did a sample DVD conversion myself to show them what COULD and SHOULD be done. To their credit they agreed to redo a bunch of the DVD's. About half of them came back acceptable. So we tried a third time! Most of them came back even on the third try as unacceptable. One of them came up with a prompt message to clean their VCR. This text came up regularly every 9 seconds throughout my DVD! So, they finally processed a credit for the last few tapes and I sent those to a competing service to finish the job.

They don't refund fully and just hope that you won't catch it. They will reject tapes for no reason even when you prove them wrong and won't give you a refund if they do nothing. Don't trust them. I'm expecting to get totally screwed by them before my stuff is fully returned.

I had 14 video VHS tapes to be digitized and they claimed only 9 of them were able to work. It wasn't long ago that we had them all converted to DVDs, and they all worked perfectly fine. Many videos had the audio available, but no video. Pretty disappointed, especially for the price.

I used them 10 years ago and again just this month. The whole process is just seamless and headache free. I just wanted to leave a review for those that might be hesitant as I was.

I received my digitized copies of tapes I sent them. Approximately 40 misc miniDV, VHS, EC-45, and Video8 tapes. Every single item was digitized although some tapes were blank. The whole process of receiving a box, using stickers to identify and tag each item, and then having a corresponding digital file with the same number is just wow. Makes organizing my digital files and reviewing everything so much easier. These old tapes from 20 years ago were not in 4k so I'm not expecting HD quality on tapes that weren't recorded that way. I would recommend using a digital video editor to fix or lighten up any dark videos.

I'm extremely happy with the results and am putting together my next order.
