Interesting buildings and an old history make this very active campus great for a quick visit. Many students from all over the States. Visit the scenic gazebo by the salmon filled stream for some great pictures.

My daughter attended the high school camp for the first time this past summer, and had a wonderful experience! We live in California, so it was a little scary for both of us to have her travel alone and spend 2 weeks away from home. But everything went off without a problem. She stayed in the dorm rooms, and made so many new friends! She loved the counselors, and enjoyed the classes. I flew up for the final 2 days of camp so I could watch the kids' final performances. The camp's grounds (previously a college campus) are absolutely gorgeous, with sprawling green lawns and overlooking the harbor. The performing arts center, where the final performances were, was a mile or so off campus. It, too, is a beautiful facility. I stayed in downtown Sitka, and was able to walk everywhere- the camp, performing arts center, restaurants etc.
My daughter said that going to Sitka Fine Arts Camp was a life changing experience for her. Meeting new people outside the usual high school drama she sees everyday at home really opened up her eyes. She said the kids were so genuine and happy at camp, which I thought was great! It gave her confidence and a taste of independence by traveling alone. The cost was reasonable for staying in the dorms. About $1400 for the 2 weeks, plus airfare. I should note her one complaint- the food was just so-so.

This is probably one of the top summer fine arts camp in the nation. This organization goes to the far ends to bring in talent, and the kids truly produce during their two weeks. The shows and viewings are amazing and I’ve seen many teens transformed by their time being a creator, an artist. It’s an eclectic group of kids, many from out of the USA, and that diversity brings in new cultural experiences for everyone. Roger Schmidt, the Director is a visionary and that shows in everything they do.

I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars. I attended for 3 years, and years later my time at SFAC remains among some of my most pleasant memories. The entire staff is incredibly queer and trans friendly, helpful, encouraging, and kind. Every instructor is a highly regarded professional at what they do, and some of them are world class artists. The counseling staff are always very concerned with the safety of their kids, but try to ensure that each and every individual has an enjoyable and memorable time. While the price of enrollment and a plane ticket to visit is quite high, scholarships are offered, so even if you cant afford it its definetly worth applying to get some cost reduced. The staff truly just wants to help young aspiring artists hone their craft, in a friendly, accepting, and encouraging environment. Even if you arnt particularly talented or interested in any one specific artform, sitka fine arts camp can be a phenominal way to dip your toes in a lot of different arts, and learn under the instruction of some world class artists.

I would heavily suggest staying in the dorm halls, as it's a great way to meet new people and bond with new friends. I'm unsure on the current rules, but as a trans girl I was allowed to stay in the female dorms, and was treated just like all the other girls. The head staff are incredibly helpful and willing to work with you if you contact them.
