It’s a great pleasure to write a few words of praise for Mick Costine, much as it was to work with him on a demanding product photoshoot and subsequent website design. As an architect, as well as the designer of a series of personal space structures (Duodecahedrons), I already had an emerging sense of how they might be photographed, but working with Mick was like having the great benefit of a second brain and sharp pair of eyes to explore various views and environments, functionally and aesthetically. The resulting collaboration was eFortless and gratifying, and produced a stunning portfolio of shots.

The structures presented two problems: strange geometry that appears to change depending on the angle of view, and semi-translucent mesh coverings in vivid colors where the photos needed to take transparency and reflectivity into account to really work. Bright sun was an additional challenge, along with wrangling the 6 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs that posed with the structures. Mick handled all of this with skill, patience and savvy, an 8-hour shoot that produced not only remarkable images, but a very happy “community” of all the participants.

The second phase of the project was to design a website to present the new products, and I asked Mick to do that. Again, with his fine sense of design, characteristic upbeat manner and openness to collaboration, he created an elegant site that works very well, that lets the photos stand out without unnecessary graphic elements...exactly as needed given the nature of the content. Mick also expertly tweaked a number of the photos, for example where actors had to be posed in the deep shadow of the structure’s interior, with very natural results. He obviously has excellent command of the tools of editing, graphics and web design.

With these skills, together with Mick’s trained eye as a photographer, warm personality, unflagging energy and intelligence, you find an ideal creative partner and wonderful human being! I look forward to the chance to work together on the next project.

I can't say enough good things about Michael Rob Costine's production company! A few years ago he willingly volunteered his services to film a video for an anti-bullying campaign (Hero Starts With Her) for schools which I was working on at the time.
