If I could give negative stars, the review would be -10 stars. I don't know what happened to Media Temple. It is now the absolute WORST for tech support. For all practical purposes their tech support doesn't even exist. There text support feature is total garbage. I waited over three hours and still got no response other than the initial, "We will assign you to the next available guide". I never got a response and gave up. I'm presently waiting on their phone system. It's been 45 minutes so far.

If I can ever get my issues resolved, I'll be moving my sites shortly thereafter. Stay FAR, FAR AWAY from these guys.

If you've been in this industry for a few years, you realize that ALL hosting companies have occasional issues, but Media Temple does a great job, especially with telephone support which is the best I've experienced. I especially like the fact that they actually send out a email synopsis of the support issue for your records -- who else does that? Overall, a great hosting company.

Update: May 2014. Since the Go Daddy takeover, I feel like things have deteriorated. It takes much longer to get through to tech support on the phone, and there's just the general feeling that the dark corporate hand of Go Daddy will eventually screw up Media Temple to the point where it's no longer different or better than other alternatives. Hanging in there for now, but keeping my eyes open for trouble.

Update September 2014: The fun is over -- I'm out. The quality of hosting and support has really dropped. The Grid service, which used to be pretty good, has suffered badly -- it's just miserable now, very slow and starved for resources. Media Temple no longer competes with alternatives. I migrated all my sites to another host.

Be aware that most hosting review sites are affiliates of the companies they "review". When evaluating a host, check Google local reviews and Yelp too for a more balanced picture.

For those who are looking for a reputable company to host your site- who has standards and integrity and the best interest of their clients at heart...You DEFINITELY do not want Media Temple. A few weeks after we began hosting with MT, we were hacked on their server and all of our files were infected. We called Media Temple to ask them if they knew how this could have happened and they totally turned their backs on us and took no responsibility for even alerting or notifying us that there was a problem. We had to shut the entire site down and re-build for the severity of the infections that got past their supposedly secure servers. They promise a lot when they want to sign you up for their programs, but beware. They are the worst on customer service who care nothing about their clients except for getting their money and if a client needs their help...they turn a deaf ear. It's all about the money with this company. They are also overpriced for what you don't receive! There are so many other hosting companies out there who want to work with their clients and help them to grow. Media Temple is not one of them. Buyer BEWARE!

Love the GRID hosting. Even though they may have their issues with downtime, name me a host that has never gone down. I've hosted my websites there for the past 5 years, and we've had nothing but great service. Their support team is 2nd to none, and the Grid has kept us up and running even with heavy traffic we experience in the summer months. Even when there is an issue, Media Temple's support team via Twitter will communicate with you immediately. The communication is always there and that is extremely important to our website and founding members.

Can't believe all the negativity I'm seeing in some of these reviews. Media Temple has been a cut above the rest when it comes to web hosts. Support is always on top of their game, and I've never hung up the phone feeling unsatisfied. I've been on their Grid for the past 3 years, and I have never found the need to look elsewhere. They keep my sites up, they don't give me the run around, and they have been consistent (which I can't say for a lot of hosting companies out there)

Terrible service and experience. Signed up for a "premium" account that caused the site to load slowly and get errors. After 2 weeks of it being a disaster we decided to pull the plug and switch hosts. Although we told multiple people via phone, chat and email to cancel and refund our account, we didn't physically click to cancel our account in their system. That means $0 refund. We paid a full year for a god awful service that was used less than 3 weeks. Because of their terrible hosting and technicians- our website didn't even function properly for those 3 weeks. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They're great and nice over the phone-- all goes down hill after that.

I am reading reviews of this company because I currently have a resume out and have submitted to this company (though I have NOT interviewed or been contacted yet) I just wanted to chime in because I have my own leased server with another hosting company and have been in this biz for quite a while... Let me just say that there are people out there that know just enough to be dangerous and often rant, rave and complain without knowing the facts and this is a classic case in my opinion.
No hosting server has 100% up-time people and there will be times during your service contract that maintenance will be required or the server hits a glitch or maybe needs updating. Generally, if it is maintenance or updating the techs choose to do this during off peak hours. My hosting company upgraded to all new equipment last year and we had many days of intermittent service... but I stuck with them and am happy to say we haven't had a problem since.
As for adding databases... come-on David really, I think you know the answer to this one already. I don't know of a company out there that would let you add databases without upgrading your service - but hey if ya find one let me know... that's kind of a ridiculous statement. If you want more server space and bandwidth - YA HAVE TO PAY FOR IT... there's no haggling over the price or amount of space or bandwidth you get because they are preset packages on the server. At best you could maybe ask NICELY for a free month of service to make up for your downtime.

If only a rating could be zero stars. MT disbanded its ticketing system in favor of a chat feature so that it could provide "faster, real-time support." It took an agent 45 minutes today to engage in a conversation with me. I would have rated my experience in the moment, only the rating feature wasn't working! Seems about right.

A previous service request dealt with a technical issue way beyond my capabilities. MT's "solution" was to email me a set of instructions that I MIGHT be able to decipher if I had a degree in information technology.

From what I can tell, this company is a disaster.
