After 30 years we finally made it to the most talked about pizza place in Princeton - Contes. We met the owner and chatted with her about the history of the place. Anyway - food was great. Phew.
Salad was fresh and nice size. And hot, fresh loaf of bread with super soft and light inside and perfect crust on outside.
Pizza crust was thin but too soft. Cheese was nothing special.
Meatballs were excellent.
Service was excellent.
Water stained ceiling tiles.

This was recommended to me by a local and it did not disappoint! Small enough to be intimate, and popular enough to be effortlessly efficient. The food really is the show piece of the restaurant. The pepperoni, garlic pizza is what the bar tender recommends and so do I. Thin crust that stays straight when picked up. For an Utah native, this was a revelation on what pizza could taste like. I cannot wait to come back!

Came here for lunch after apple picking based off of reviews. It was pretty empty. The pizza came out and it looked crispy and delicious. I loved the flavor of the garlic and mushroom and the tomatoes was amazing! However I’m not a crispy dough person so I just ate the toppings and cheese. I then tried the plain and it was MUCH better than the topping slices. On the plain, the cheese was crispy, flavorful and the sauce was fresh! I did enough the pizza slices but the plain more however it is not my go to places. This type of pizza is for people who like CRISPY CRUNCHY pizza.

We heard several great reviews about this place during our visit to Princeton. But did it live up to expectations?

My son had researched some places to eat, and he found this one. Some people online really talked it up. He also knew that we were supposed to park in back, which is where our GPS took us, so we never saw the front of the restaurant.

Finding a place to park was easy, but that didn’t mean the place wasn’t busy. Actually, we had 4-5 families in front of us.

While we stood in line, a server asked if we knew what we wanted. That was a plus - they would take our order while we waited and then our food would arrive more quickly once we sat down. Since it was our first time there, we asked for a menu.

The menu is simple with some pasta and sandwiches. But the pizza is what we had come for. Basically your options are plain (cheese only), one topping or the special, although you can go half and half. The special includes everything except anchovies and onions by default, but you can add them, too, for no extra charge.

Our server recommended a large pizza for the three of us. And we ordered half plain and half pepperoni.

Once we were seated, someone came to take our drink order. We just asked for water. As a side note, though, they don’t offer refills on their soft drinks.

The pizza eventually arrived. It is a very thin crust, which is something I like. The cheese was plentiful. I’m not a fan of pepperoni, but my wife and son are. They said this was the real deal, not those thin slices you find at the supermarket. They may look smaller in diameter but are definitely thicker. I actually thought two were stuck together.

As for taste, it was very good. I thought it was a bit overcooked, though, for my preference.

Would I return? Sure. In fact, I know our family will go here again the next time we’re in the area. I’d gladly give it another try. And I already know that the next time we eat at Conte’s, we’ll order the special.

The pizza was very powdery. You could taste the powder. Almost like the pizza was “raw” (?)

The pizza dough and crust were horrible. The crust was like chips (pictured). It was like having chips dipping with tomato sauce. Not a pizza.

What’s even worse was after eating the pizza, I had stomach issues and got sick.

For me, the worst pizza yet.

Contes is probably the best pizza in Princeton. Some have called the pizza here a bar pie, but Conte’s crust has more substance. We had a large sausage pie, which comes out as pinched sausage (the right way) instead of sliced sausage (meh). The menu and venue offer nothing fancy, and that’s why it’s great. It’s a few things done well, no frills. I always come back here when I’m in the area.

A bit disappointing considering the reviews. Service and staff were great, but the pizza is not the best. Had it twice now...
Thin, almost over/underdone (depending on the day) tasteless floury, crunchy crust, that scratches the top of your mouth. Slightly sour sauce that doesnt go all the way up to the crust, so you just taste cheese and dough. Good stringy cheese

Pizza is very good. I would like it if the crust was a little doughier. The cheese browns perfectly tho. Price was high end $26 for a large plain. I ordered way in advance and picked up on a Saturday night. It was not as busy as I thought it would be , the place has a bit of hype in the area. No wait in and out, yet it was sleet/icy out that particular night. All in all a great pizza shop. Has a bar inside too. Park in rear.
