Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), the oldest traditional karate organization in America, celebrated its 60 th anniversary in 2016. Its founder and Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima, one of the first traditional martial artists to come to America. Ohshima Sensei also established karate organizations in several countries including Canada, France, Switzerland, Spain, Japan and Germany. The 60th Anniversary of SKA was a chance for members from the world to join in practice and celebration. To capture the three-day event, we hired Dusty DePree and his team of video experts. We did this for three reasons: Dusty was extremely helpful in providing a set of approaches to best capture the event (e.g., use of drones, number of cameras, size of crew). He clearly understood our vision, and offered a reasonable price for the work. The product beautifully captured the event and the people and was nicely edited. Above all it captured the sense of seriousness and the joy associated with the practice of karate under Ohshima Sensei. The product created by Dusty and his team hit the mark and beyond! It will be a video watched over decades by old and new practitioners as well as non-practitioners interested in martial arts.
